About us
The roots of the CE Marking Association go back to 1989 and has for many years been leading manufacturers through the maze of conformity legislation. Please allow us to explain a little bit more about us and our history. The main purpose of our Association is to assist companies that manufacture, import or distribute products that fall within the scope of at least one of the 25 CE Marking Directives (such as electrical apparatus, machines, medical devices, pressure equipment, construction products and other consumer products), in understanding and meeting their legal obligations with regards to the CE Mark and product conformity, and keeping up-to-date with changes in legislation.
Our history
Originally the Association started out as the West Midlands EMC Club, which was originally established in 1993 under a national initiative by the DTI (now BEIS) as one of several regional EMC clubs. Originally based at Bordesley Hall (right), the EMC Club was set up to assist manufacturers in understanding their obligations as required by the soon to be mandatory EMC Directive 89/336/EEC and the upcoming CE marking legislation. Over time, as some of the other clubs declined, the West Midlands EMC Club grew to become the Midlands EMC Club, and then the Midlands EMC & CE Club, which extended its coverage to include all product Directives that required a products to be affixed with the CE mark. Then due to continued success and popularity, in 2003 the club was re-launched as the CE Marking Association offering comprehensive European product compliance advice across the UK and beyond.
As one of the few EMC & CE clubs that remain active, the CE Marking Association currently has hundreds of members from large and small organisations, as well as representatives of many of the industry’s experts and enforcement agencies. In addition to the range of member services offered, the Association is currently able to provide, through its managing company Wemtech, advice, consultancy, compliance services including product testing and assessment, and training, in all areas of product compliance using its skilled and experienced in-house team and testing/assessment facilities.
