Eco Design Requirements Updates

2012-2014 Workplan:
The Commission has published its 2012-2014 Workplan for the Ecodesign Directive. A copy of the workplan can be downloaded from the DEFRA website.

New Ecopliant Website
A website for the European Ecodesign Compliance Project [Ecopliant] has now been launched. The Ecopliant project was launched on the 20th April 2012 and has the key aim of helping to deliver the economic and environmental benefits of the Ecodesign Directive by strengthening market surveillance and so increasing levels of compliance across the Single Market.

Ecopliant is being delivered through seven co-ordinated work packages focusing on different aspects of the monitoring, verification and enforcement process. Go to www.ecopliant.eu for more information.

Household Washing Machines and Dishwashers
Generic eco design requirements for household washing machines and dishwashers are set to come into force on the 1st December 2012. The requirements are set out in point 1(1) of Annex I of EC Regulation No. 1015/2010 (household washing machines) and 1016/2010 (household dishwashers).

Standby and Off Mode (Second Tier):
On the 7th January 2013 the second tier ecodesign requirements (in Annex II of EC Regulation No. 1275/2008) for Standby and Off Mode shall apply. Products covered by the Standby and Off Mode Regulation predominately covers equipment for use in domestic environments (such as microwaves, television sets and toys) and a full list can be viewed in Annex I of the Regulation.
