| Why Test Your Product? |
Many products sold in the EU fall within the scope of one or more CE Marking Directives. All of these products require the CE Mark as a demonstration of
their conformity, and it is a manufacturer's responsibility to make sure these legal obligations are met
...expand text...
The CE Mark is applied by the manufacturer as a Declaration that he believes that his product meets all of the relevant requirements, of all of the relevant CE Marking Directives. It is usual (but not always necessary) to undertake some testing and/or assessment of your product to demonstrate how you have determined that the requirements have been met. The CE Marking Association can undertake this testing and assessment, typically following the guidance and requirements of applicable harmonised standards, or can help you identify how and when you can perform your own product testing or assessment.
It is not often well publicised that there can be many routes to conformity, depending on the nature of the product and the Directives that need to be met. It can be difficult to identify these different options, and the relative cost implications of each decision. The CE Marking Association will not only tell you what your options are, and what is involved, we can also advise which would be the best option for you.

The CE Marking process is one of self certification for most directives, however, with certain high risk products the involvement of a Notified Body may
be required. We can help you decide when and how to involve a Notified Body, and can assist with their engagement.
...expand text...
The engagement of a Notified Body can be a complicated affair, and it is important to realise which parts of the process they will be assisting with.
It is important to remember that Notified Bodies do not assume any of the manufacturer’s responsibilities for the CE conformity of the product, and
as such the manufacturer will still have some work to do. Unlike Notified Bodies, we are able to provide unbiased conformity advice and work in your
best interests, especially when cost choices need to be made. The CE Marking Association can also assist with writing test plans and obtaining
quotations from Notified Bodies where their involvement is required.
We can provide you with as much or as little help as you need, from fully testing your product in our laboratory or chamber using a turn-key approach,
to holding your hand and guiding you through the process by showing you how you can perform your own tests and assessments, and auditing the work you
have done. Alternatively, if there is only one area where you need some assistance we are happy to help you fill any gaps in your CE conformity.

Full Turn-Key Solutions
Full management of your Product Compliance process from the initial design stage through to product launch.
You can involve us from the outset, ensuring that compliance is designed in right from the start to help ensure that you have no nasty surprises when it comes to testing your product. If you have already designed and manufactured your prototype, or your product is already being produced, we can take it off your hands and assess it against the applicable harmonised standards, and assist you with rectifying any non-conformities that may arise.
Even if you have been manufacturing your product for some time, but your CE marking needs some updating, we can identify where the gaps are to ensure that you are kept up to date with current requirements and legislation.
Advice & Consultancy
We will hold your hand and guide you through the process! If you only require assistance with one or two aspects of CE marking we will give you as much or as little help as you need. Example areas of CE marking that we can help with include;

• Identifying the appropriate Directives
...expand...
It’s not always easy to know where to begin, as even identifying the right Directives that apply to your products can lead many people to fall at the first hurdle. We can tell you which Directives you need to meet, and why, and how.

|
• Undertaking Risk Assessments
...expand...
Some (but not all) Directives require you to perform a risk assessment. We can undertake a ‘product focused’ risk assessment of your product, or show you how.

• Identifying the Appropriate Standards
...expand...
There are thousands of standards that can be used to help you assess the safety of your product, but finding the right one can be a challenge. More often than not there won’t be a standard that wholly applies to your product, particularly if it is new, innovative, or unique in some way so it is important to find the right standards to use. The CE Marking Association can help identify the right standards, or parts of standards, right from the outset.

We have excellent EMC and Electrical Safety Testing facilities to test your products to ensure they meet the applicable harmonised standards. All tests are undertaken in accordance with the applicable harmonised standards (See below for further details). We can also perform many types of mechanical testing and assessment such as, load, impact, humidity, endurance, etc. Please contact us for further details.

• Production of Technical Documentation
...expand...
A major part of the CE marking process is demonstrating how your product meets the requirements of the Directives, and how you have determined that your product is safe. All of this evidence needs to be held in a Technical (Construction) File, which needs to contain a sufficient level of detail and be suitably comprehensive. We can help you compile your Technical File and Technical Documentation, or audit the file that you have generated

|
• Production of a Declaration of Conformity
...expand...
The Declaration of Conformity is a legal requirement and a critical component of the CE marking process, so it’s very important to get it right! It is also the information that you will be providing to your customers to demonstrate that your product meets all of the relevant CE Marking requirements, so it is very important that the information it contains is accurate, adequate, and up-to-date.

• Training to perform your own tests and assessments
